Skip hire firm fined
A CARMARTHENSHIRE skip hire firm has been prosecuted for placing skips on the public highway without permission.
Pendragon Waste & Skip Hire Limited pleaded guilty at Carmarthen Magistrates Court to four offences contrary to section 139 of the Highways Act 1980.
The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council.
The court heard that skips were placed in Ralph Terrace, Heol Elfed, Iscoed and Gelli Road in Llanelli without the relevant permissions from the council.
The company was fined a total of £260 and ordered to pay £551.34 prosecution costs.
Chair of the council’s Environment Scrutiny Committee Cllr Jim Jones said “Carmarthenshire County Council is determined to tackle the problem of unlicensed skips. This is important both to ensure safety on the highway and to reduce the risk that waste from those skips will be illegally dumped.”
A permit from the council is needed to place a skip on the highway.
