News today reveals that a further 40 miles of London roads are set to have 20mph limit, which are also coming into action around the UK. Louise Thomas, motor expert at Confused.com car insurance comments:
“It’s likely that some drivers will see an increase of 20mph zones as the government has started to implement changes in both London and in Wales. A slower speed limit can benefit for the environment and be safer for road users. This can be especially important for built up areas, such as congestion zones or near schools and hospitals.
“Opinion on 20mph zones is divided, as some drivers feel frustrated with the changes. But the changes have been put in place for a reason and choosing to ignore them could land you in hot water.
“If caught speeding, motorists could land themselves with a ticket, points on their licence or be asked to attend a speed awareness course. Roads with the 20mph should be clearly signposted, but if you’re unsure, information on any changes should be available on your local government website, if it applies.”
