Paul Butterworth, CEO at Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid, said:

“We are delighted to hear that a significant deal between Tata Steel and the UK government has been agreed, enabling manufacturing to continue at its Port Talbot site by safeguarding multiple jobs and taking steps towards sustainable steel production here in Wales that will underpin some of the significant projects that are planned.

“The steelworks are the cultural and employment heartbeat of the local economy, an economy that has been built around providing opportunities for generations of local workers in Port Talbot and its supply chain ecosystem.

“It is vital that policymakers prioritise further support for manufacturing and invest in skills development to the benefit of the local economy across Wales to recruit suitable skilled staff and continue development to retain staff. The expertise of these workers and opportunities to upskill has been vital to the area for generations.”
