Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £500 to a Swansea based charity as part of its support for charities across the UK.
Tŷ Olwen Trust received the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues at the Society’s Swansea Branch.
The Tŷ Olwen Trust was formed in 1981 to support the Tŷ Olwen Hospice, a specialist palliative care unit within the cancer directorate of the Swansea Bay University health board. Over the years the Tŷ Olwen Trust has, like the service, developed to support home care services, day care facilities and hospital-based services.
The £500 donation to Tŷ Olwen Trust will be used to purchase a special blood testing machine which will help patients be cared for at home.
Jon Tucker, manager of Yorkshire Building Society in Swansea, said: “We are proud to be able to support Tŷ Olwen Trust in our community in Swansea with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The work that they are doing to support patients at home, in the community and in hospital is providing a real benefit to their lives and the lives of their families.”
Mrs Helen Murray, Chairman of the Tŷ Olwen Trust, said: “This fantastic donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation will be used to purchase a blood testing machine for our patients being cared for in their own homes which prevents a visit to hospital, and enables our team to have instant results to make a diagnosis and treatment plan. This will make a huge difference to so many people – thank you so very much.”
Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.
Last year, the Charitable Foundation passed the £9million mark for donations to charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
