Motorcyclist convicted of travelling at 132 mph

A motorcyclist caught travelling at 132 mph on the A48 Cross Hands to Pont Abraham services has been given six penalty points and fined £900.

Robert Rees from Swansea was caught speeding in July 2011 during a day of action aimed at encouraging motorcyclists to be safe on the road. He appeared before magistrates in Llanelli on Friday 9th March 2012.

“Mr Rees is extremely lucky not to have lost his licence on this occasion,” said roads policing Sergeant Ian Price. “Travelling on a motorcycle at excessive speeds such as this can have catastrophic consequences and in Dyfed Powys Police we aim to keep our roads as safe as possible for all users.

“I hope that this hefty fine and the six points will act as a deterrent to other motorcyclists and motorists thinking of speeding. Officers from our roads policing unit will be carrying out similar days of action in the coming weeks and anyone caught speeding will be dealt with appropriately.”
