Llanelli District Cemetery has scooped an award at the 2023 National Cemetery of the Year Awards.

The Memorial Awareness Board (MAB) has been promoting and organising the Cemetery of the Year Awards for nearly 20 years. Llanelli District Cemetery was awarded Silver in the Medium Burial Ground category of the National Competition and received the award in September.

Philip Potts of the Memorial Awareness Board said;

“The awards are an excellent opportunity to reward hard-working staff and demonstrate the central role Cemeteries can play in the community. They provide places of peaceful contemplation and beauty, as well as their ecological importance.

The team at Llanelli Cemetery performed exceptionally throughout the extensive judging period which is focused on Industry Standards, Environmental Issues and Good Practice”

Llanelli Rural Council Chairman said: “The hard work, care and commitment shown by the staff at Llanelli District Cemetery is unstinting and we as a council are delighted that the Cemetery has been recognised in the Memorial Awareness Board’s Cemetery of the Year Awards for 2023/24.  Llanelli Rural Council and Llanelli Town Council continue to work together to enhance our communities”.

Llanelli Town Council Mayor said: “I am delighted that the Llanelli District Cemetery has been recognised at the prestigious Cemetery of the Year Awards with a Silver Award. This recognition is a wonderful achievement and evidences the committed work of the joint Town Council and Rural Council Team who provide an exceptional service to the Llanelli Community while being respectful of the nature of the facility provided”.
