Recently the Welsh Liberal Democrats have raised concerns over worsening TB rates amongst cattle herds in Wales.

The overall prevalence rate of infected herds has worsened in the past year, with rates rising from 5.2% in 2022 to 5.3% in 2023.

The party are now calling for farmers and veterinarians to have more input in the Welsh Government’s bovine TB eradication program.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“With TB continuing to spread across Wales, the emotional and financial impacts for farming families remain all too real.

Whilst the latest figures surrounding the Welsh Government’s bovine TB eradication programme are encouraging on paper, in reality there is still plenty of work to be done.

Farmers and veterinarians, those who know their animals best, must be involved in the process of eradicating TB.

Their insight and expertise could prove vital in finally eradicating this terrible disease.

We all want to make TB testing and cattle culls a thing of the past, but to do so we must ensure that those dealing first hand with the threat of TB are being allowed to contribute.”
