What an amazing weekend in Carmarthenshire to kick off the Christmas period with thousands turning out to enjoy activities at Llanelli Christmas Carnival, Carmarthen Christmas Lights switch-on and Llandeilo’s Festival of Senses.
The weekend started with Llanelli’s Carnival and Lights Switch-on, Carmarthenshire’s largest annual community event, with an impressive parade throughout the town of over 20 decorated lorries, buses and tractors before watching an impressive firework display to bring the night to an end.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans said:
“Children at the heart of the community in Llanelli and across Carmarthenshire, their contribution to celebrations in Llanelli really emphasises that”.
She continued “I would like to take the opportunity to thank the partners that made this event so successful, including Llanelli Town Council, Llanelli Rural Council and Llanelli Round Table as well as the valuable support of Dyfed Powys Police”.
The 2023 winners of the Schools “Design a Christmas light” competition were Kieara Bradley and Oakley Hughes-Picket and their designs have been made into lights which can now be seen hanging in the town centre.
On Saturday 18 November, visitors to Carmarthen were treated to all day entertainment that included dancing, live music and a firework display over the Castle. The appearance of Santa and some of his elves was a hit amongst the children in attendance, and parents could enjoy the wide range of Christmas Cabins selling festive themed goods and food throughout the day.
The 3-day Festival of Senses ensured the streets of Llandeilo were filled with people seeking to buy presents and gifts from the large range of food, drink, arts and homeware on show as well as listen to live music and entertainment including the ‘5K Santa run’.
Thank you to all organisers, volunteers and visitors (and Santa) for starting the countdown to Christmas in Carmarthenshire in such style.
