New research has revealed the UK’s most picturesque winter beaches, with Rhossili Bay coming second in the overall ranking.

Ripe Motorhome Insurance analysed stock photography and Instagram hashtags to compile the list, looking at specific winter imagery of 100 of the UK’s most popular beaches.

It comes ahead of a cold snap set to hit the UK this week, when many of us will be heading out to make the most of the crisp wintery weather.

Rhossili Bay came second behind Brighton Beach with 27,865 Instagram hashtags and 18 winter stock images. The Gower Peninsula is famous for its breathtakingly beautiful string of beaches and Rhossili Bay is one of the coastline’s most popular. Although teeming with tourists in summer, is well worth a quieter visit in the colder months. Rhossili was followed in third by Cromer Beach in Norfolk.

John Woosey, Founder of Ripe Motorhome Insurance, said: “The UK is home to some of the most stunning beaches in the world, with a coastline that stretches more than 11,000 miles. Many people would associate a day at the seaside with warm summer days. But there is something equally magical about a beach during winter, with wild waters, pale light and (perhaps most invitingly!) fewer crowds.

“There are hundreds of stunning beaches across the country that are just as deserving of a trip in December as they are in June, so how do you choose where to visit? Hopefully our ranking provides a great place to start.”
