Mid and West Wales MS Jane Dodds has called for an improved grid infrastructure for Mid Wales.

According to a report from the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales, the use of microgrids and local smart energy systems can help reconnect remote rural areas.

Jane Dodds MS has claimed that the building of renewable grids, separate from an already overloaded main grid, could help electrify Mid Wales.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“Chronic grid underinvestment has left Mid Wales with severe connection shortages that have hindered local businesses and environmental progress.

To their credit the Welsh Government are working to address these shortages, but what they currently lack is the ability to see how by embracing innovation in how we deploy grid infrastructure, we can help solve this crisis.

Building and funding community microgrids, solar projects, and using local smart energy systems can go a long way in helping to circumnavigate the barriers facing those in remote areas.

By doing so we could enable local generation and supply of energy in areas that have been cut off from the central grid for far too long.

When faced with unique and challenging obstacles, innovation is the key to success.”
