The headteacher of Pembroke School, Frank Ciccotti, said today that all pupils and staff were greatly saddened to learn of the death of a Year 10 pupil on land near the school site yesterday (Monday, 16thMay).

“He was a well-regarded student who had many close friends” said Mr Ciccotti.

“He had a gentle character, polite and respectful, and was intelligent and articulate with the potential to achieve well. We will miss him very much.”

“Our sincere condolences go out to his friends and family. He is very much in our thoughts.”

Mr Ciccotti went on: “We have experienced support workers and counsellors available to talk to those who are most troubled, and we are very grateful for the support of the police, local authority and local churches in providing assistance.

“We are also trying to help students and staffs begin to cope with their loss through a series of special assemblies.

“The school is co-operating with the Coroner and his officers in their investigation into the circumstances of this tragic event.

“It would not be appropriate for us to make any further comment at this time.”
