Construction of Llandre footway ‘Safe Routes Scheme’ completed

The project has been delivered by Ceredigion County Council and was funded by the Welsh Government’s Safe Routes in Communities Scheme Grant. The fund provides an opportunity for local authorities to provide safer walking and cycling routes between communities, to schools and colleges, to access public transport and a range of local services and opportunities.

Councillor Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Carbon Management, said: “We are delighted to have received this funding from the Welsh Government to complete the footway link between the communities of Llandre and Bow Street.  This has helped make it a safer route for children to walk or to use their scooters on their journey to Rhydypennau School.”

Councillor Ray Quant, Local Member for Llandre, commented: “This is an important safety improvement that helps to get children safely to their local school and is excellent news for the whole community.”

Adrian Havard, Head Teacher at Rhydypennau Primary School, said: “This is great news for those families living in Llandre and who have to make the short walk every morning and afternoon. This new footway will enable more families to walk safely to school and home, helping to ease congestion outside the school at drop-off and pick-up times.  Thanks to the funding, the school has a new cycle shelter and scooter rack so that the pupils can safely store their bikes and scooters and keep them nice and dry under cover”.
