The Welsh Liberal Democrats have urged the Welsh Government to offer more support for rural Wales, ahead of the forthcoming Welsh budget announcement.

The party have called for a fairer deal for rural Wales, one which ensures that public services are properly funded to sustain local communities.

The party are also calling for more support for farming and agriculture, so that farmers are given the right resources to continue their vital work in feeding Wales, maintaining animal welfare, and helping to tackle the climate emergency.

Ahead of the Welsh budget announcement on the 19th of December, the Welsh liberal have laid down their priorities:

1.           Investing in our NHS and fixing the crisis in NHS dentistry and cut waiting times.

2.           Investing in children, helping to tackle the schools funding crisis and support childcare providers.

3.           Investing in our economy by extending financial support for small businesses and making homes for energy efficient.

4.          Supporting farming and agriculture, helping farmers to continue producing high-quality food, animal welfare standards, and tackling the climate emergency.

Commenting, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“For far too long now the interests of rural Wales have been sidelined and ignored by both the UK Conservative and the Welsh Labour Government.

By pushing for a flawed Brexit deal, the Conservatives have managed to place even more red tape on farmers who rely on trading with their partners on the continent.

Make no mistake, the Tories have abandoned our rural communities.

Ahead of their upcoming budget, the Welsh Government and their Plaid Cymru partners cannot afford to leave rural communities behind again.

We at the Welsh Liberal Democrats are calling for a fairer deal for our rural communities, one which allows us to ensure that public services are being properly funded.

Our rural economies need investment, our local farms need support.

Our farmers play a vital role in the fight against climate change and are more than willing to play their part, if given the right resources.

By extending financial support for small businesses and by providing more funding to farmers, we can help those who support our nation every year.”
