Flower power will be taking over Swansea this summer.

Green-fingered residents, businesses, communities and schools are being urged to enter the 2016 Swansea in Bloom competition.

The competition, organised by Swansea Council’s parks development team, in partnership with Swansea in Bloom’s voluntary committee, takes place every year.

Categories include best front garden, best back garden and best gardens open to charity. Best community entry, best individual allotment site and best public house, café or restaurant are among the others.

Cllr Mark Child, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Healthy City and Wellbeing, said: “The combination of world class scenery and top quality parks and green spaces makes Swansea a truly fantastic place to live, so the annual Swansea in Bloom competition adds to the spectacular colour that we already enjoy.

“The competition isn’t just a great way for people to improve and show off their gardening skills. It’s also a fantastic way to foster community spirit and generate a healthy sense of competition that benefits the city as a whole.

“As well as our wild flowers scheme, it’s initiatives like this that contribute to Swansea’s reputation for an outstanding work-life balance.”

Other Swansea in Bloom categories include best large business premises or public building, best green gardener and best container garden. There’s also a sunflower competition for young gardeners.

Email sibcompetition@outlook.com with your name, address, phone number and category to enter the competition for free by the June 28 deadline. You can also give James Malatynski a call on 07880 182734 for more information.
