Carmarthenshire Markets are again participating in the high profile, Love your Local Market 2016 campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities.
The campaign aims to attract new market traders and also aims to highlight the importance that markets play in the heart of the local community, not only for retail but also as a valuable community asset and a focal point for many town centres.
The campaign is also chance for Carmarthenshire County Council, which owns and runs the markets in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford, Llandovery and Llandeilo, to highlight the events that have been held and will be held in the markets throughout the year, especially during Love Your Local Market fortnight from May 17th -31st.
As part of this year’s National campaign we will launch our annual Carmarthenshire Young Traders competition for pupils from four primary schools in the Llanelli, Gwendraeth and Burry Port and Pembrey areas to prove their entrepreneurship skills and learn more about what it’s like to become a trader. This year’s competition is being held at Llanelli outdoor market on June 30th.
This year Llanelli and Carmarthen Indoor markets are running a competition ‘Hunt for the Hearts’ Entrants will have to count how many hearts they can find in the individual market and jot the answer on the entry form and post it in Entry box provided. The winner in each market will win a prize donated by the traders. The competition will run from Wednesday, May 18 until Tuesday, May 31.
The Indoor markets in Carmarthen and Llanelli which are open six days are week are bursting with traders selling unique and a variety of products from clothing and hair and make-up accessories to gifts for your pets and vinyl records as well as stalls selling fresh produce.Or take a break from your shopping and have a cup of tea or snack at one of the cafes? Alongside the Indoor markets there are number of outdoor markets throughout the week in Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ammanford, Llandovery and Llandeilo.
Carmarthenshire county council executive board member responsible for markets, Cllr David Jenkins, said: “The Love Your Local Market campaign demonstrates how important the market is to the local community and proves a great starting point into the world for business for young entrepreneurs. Along with promoting our markets, we are also looking forward to our hugely successful Carmarthenshire Young Traders competition which gives pupils a taste of being a trader and teaches them valuable skills. The competition is being held in June and I hope shoppers will once again support the pupils in their venture.”
