The 10 most vegan-friendly cities in the UK have been revealed, according to new research by train company LNER.

The research analysed Google search data, the number of vegan restaurants listed per city on HappyCow, and the number of vegan takeaway options on Deliveroo in the 20 biggest cities in the UK. This data was then used to give each city a score out of 100.

The top 10 most vegan-friendly cities

  1. Brighton (86.9/100)
  2. Manchester (64.9/100)
  3. Bristol (59.9/100)
  4. Edinburgh (54.5/100)
  5. London (39.4/100)
  6. Glasgow (33.9/100)
  7. York (33.0/100)
  8. Liverpool (25.5/100)
  9. Cardiff (23.7/100)
  10. Reading (22.8/100)

Highlights in the study include:

  • Veganism is ever-growing in the UK, with the average number of searches for vegan restaurants increasing by 82% since 2021.
  • Brighton tops the chart with the most vegan restaurants (7.9) and vegan takeaways (8.3) per 100,000 people.
  • London, ranking 5th, offers a whopping 178 vegan restaurants, and the most vegan takeaway options (48).
  • Searches for vegan restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh have doubled in the last 2 years.
