World class aerobatic displays, outdoor cinema and an iconic rock star are among the fun on the way to Swansea this summer.

The Wales National Airshow, The Luna Cinema at Oystermouth Castle and Noel Gallagher at Singleton Park are among the events forming part of this year’s Enjoy Swansea Bay programme of events and activities.

Swansea Council is behind the fun. To complement the dedicated Enjoy Swansea Bay website, more than 80,000 Enjoy Swansea Bay brochures have also now been published and distributed to the area’s visitor attractions, leisure centres, hotels and supermarkets to further spread the word.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “There are so many great events and activities taking place across Swansea Bay this summer as part of the Enjoy Swansea Bay programme.

“The Council invested in the Enjoy Swansea Bay campaign to create a platform whereby all events taking place in Swansea can be found on one website – including Council-run events and those organised by partners and other organisations and individuals.

“The purpose of the campaign is to let residents know just how much is happening on their doorstep for both them and their visiting friends and relatives, encourage day visits from our neighbouring areas and other parts of Wales, and provide a useful tool for those staying visitors that have already booked their accommodation here.

“With so much happening across Swansea Bay, there’s no reason to travel further afield for events and activities. We’ve got the very best in contemporary entertainment, as well as events that celebrate Swansea Bay’s heritage and make the most of our outstanding coastal scenery.

“These events will combine to further boost a tourism industry that’s now worth more than £400 million a year to Swansea’s economy for the very first time.”

Highlights include the Swansea International Jazz Festival from June 17 to June 19, the Swansea Festival of Transport on June 19 and the Wales National Airshow on July 2 and July 3. The Red Arrows, the Eurofighter Typhoon and Team Yakovlevs are among the displays already confirmed for this summer’s airshow.

Other top events include a Dungeons and Dragons day at Oystermouth Castle on July 16, as well as outdoor theatre performances in association with NFU Mutual in the historic landmark’s grounds of Danny the Champion of the World on August 4, A Midsummer Night’s Dream on August 4 and Gulliver’s Travels on August 9. Swansea Council is also teaming up with The Luna Cinema to screen Back to the Future at the castle on September 14, and Grease on September 15.

Celebrating all forms of textiles, art and stitch in Swansea, the Swansea Festival of Stitch is being held from August 5 to August 19. This will include artist-led workshops, a market and taster sessions in venues including Swansea Museum and the city centre.

Former Oasis guitarist, singer and lyricist Noel Gallagher will headline a concert at Singleton Park with his band, the High Flying Birds, on September 2.

The RNLI Raft Race in Mumbles on July 31 and the annual Botanics in Bloom festival throughout August are among the extensive range of other events making up Swansea’s summer events programme.

Other events include the British Science Festival taking place from September 6 to September 9 at Swansea University, and the Festival Fringe on Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11.
