Prospect union members will be demonstrating alongside colleagues from PCS against proposed cuts to the National Library of Wales, Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales.
The three bodies are expecting cuts of between 10.5% and 22%, following more than a decade of austerity, underfunding and cuts.
The protest will be outside the Senedd tomorrow (Tuesday 27th February) from 11:00-15:00.
Jane Lancastle, Prospect Assistant National Secretary, said:
“These budget cuts will have a serious and permanent impact on the preservation of Welsh cultural heritage. Funding reductions on this scale will mean the loss of vital institutional knowledge and will inevitably result in parts of our history being lost.
“We appreciate that the Welsh Government is facing huge challenges but the total amount of spending this represents is tiny in comparison to the rest of the Welsh budget.
“Heritage and culture bring a lot of money into the Welsh economy. To cut government funding in this way is short-sighted and we urge the Welsh Government to think again.”
