“Our trip to County Mayo was a great success and now we are busy working towards our prestigious annual concert,” said choir musical director D Eifion Thomas.

“We usually rehearse twice a week – at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays at Furnace Community Hall. We are always on the look-out for new members, so anyone who wants to join a male voice choir is welcome to come along and experience our rehearsal sessions at first hand.

“There is terrific camaraderie in a male voice choir – as shown by our trip to Ireland. We are a choir known for producing work of the highest standard at our concerts and the ‘boys’ of the choir are true ‘ambassadors of song’.”

Côr Meibion Llanelli’s ‘annual’ is always a landmark event in the choral calendar in Llanelli.

This year, it is being held at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, at 7pm on Saturday, September 24.

The choir’s special guests will be Penrhyn Male Choir (Penrhyn Male Choir) from North Wales.

The two choirs are ‘old friends’. Côr Meibion Llanelli performed with Côr Penrhyn at one of the first events to be staged at the new Bryn Terfel Theatre at The Pontio arts centre in Bangor earlier this year.

Côr Penrhyn are paying back the favour by journeying south for the Côr Meibion Llanelli concert.

Meanwhile, rock and pop choir the Phil Harmonics will be joining Côr Meibion Llanelli for their popular Christmas concert at Ffwrnes Theatre.

The choir have made their entrance onto the Llanelli music scene gradually over the last year. The group was set up by Sarah Mair Richards, Phil Thomas and Pauline Yudowitz.

Last year, they held a Charity Evening which helped raise more than £1,600 for Prince Philip Hospital Breast Care Unit in Llanelli and a maternity hospital in Uganda.

Choir rehearsals are at The Stradey Park Hotel and the choir members are grateful for the hotel’s continuing support.

The Choir is for 18 – 80 year olds who want to be part of a very exciting group who are very different from your usual choirs, very up-beat and fun.

They sing some of the classics and modern pop/rock. They have their own instrumental band who accompany them at concerts.

Further to their sell-out Last Night of the Proms, the Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers will be hosting a black tie “Summer Soiree at the Castle” on Saturday 25 June in the beautiful surroundings of Stradey Castle, the family home of the choir’s president Lady Mary Mansel Lewis.

The elegant black-tie evening will feature a blend of summer cocktails, the angelic voices of the Hywel Choir’s Angelicus Chorale with orchestral accompaniment from the British Sinfonietta under the baton of John Hywel Williams.

The Hywel Choirs will join forces with the mighty Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir on Saturday 16 July for the Noel Davies Memorial Concert.

The Hywel Girls’ Choir & Hywel Boy Singers will be hosting an exciting and prestigious ‘Journey of World Music’ in the magnificent setting of St. David’s Cathedral in Pembrokeshire on Saturday 15 October.

The 200-plus voice festival of choral music will feature Llanelli’s Hywel Choirs, Angelicus Chorale, Llanelli Choral Society, Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir, resident organist Huw Tregelles Williams and guest artists – all under the baton of John Hywel Williams.

Coach transportation and day excursions are being offered to Llanelli residents for this prestige event.

Further to their much acclaimed launch performance with Lesley Garrett, the Hywel Choir’s new and exciting Angelicus Chorale will be performing at the House of Lords in October in their role as international ambassadors for national charity Cerebra which supports children with brain disorders and injuries.

The Hywel choristers look forward to fun and busy December with their exciting and ever popular Christmas Fantasia on 3 December at Y Ffwrnes with baritone Gary Griffiths and the symphonic sounds of the British Sinfonietta and a performance at the Brangwyn Hall Swansea on 11 December.
