In response to the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit’s analysis of the upcoming Contracts for Difference auction, and Keir Starmer’s speech on Great British Energy today in North Wales, Mel Evans, Climate Campaigner for Greenpeace UK, said:

“Labour has recognised that Britain urgently needs a better business environment for wind power following neglect and sometimes outright hostility from government. After blocking onshore wind – the UK’s cheapest source of electricity – for over a decade, the Conservatives are now sabotaging the UK’s main clean energy success story, offshore wind, through incompetent management of the commissioning process. Failing to build clean energy means more climate emissions and more reliance on gas imports. And so, as usual, their mistakes will have to be paid for by the public, while oil and gas companies get a few more years to squeeze UK bill payers.”
