Visitors who have heaped praise on the facilities on offer at Swansea Marina have helped it scoop a top TripAdvisor award.
The 550-berth marina, which is managed by Swansea Council and already has a coveted Blue Flag Award, has now been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence by the world’s biggest travel website.
The certificates, which are awarded purely on the basis of positive feedback from visitors about the quality of an attraction, are designed to help tourists decide their visitor itineraries before they travel.
The prestigious award highlights how visitors and boat owners at the Marina can be reassured about the quality of facilities on offer, including water quality, safety features and the day-to-day running of the site.
The accolade for Swansea Marina comes soon after Swansea Beach was also recognised for its quality by TripAdvisor. The beach, which stretches beyond the city promenade from Blackpill to the pier at Swansea Point, was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in March.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Tourism is now worth more than £400 million a year to the Swansea Bay economy. Recognition of our various attractions and beaches is clearly very important if we’re to keep on meeting the expectations and aspirations of visitors and local residents. Raising the bar for quality is one of the key aims of Swansea Bay’s Destination Management Plan, so these accolades confirm that we’re on the right track.
“Everyone involved in the management and promotion of Swansea Marina and Swansea Beach deserves to be commended because TripAdvisor praise is widely recognised internationally as an indication of top quality.
“The combination of Swansea’s stunning scenery, coupled with our ambitious regeneration plans for the city centre, will ensure that we realise our vision of Swansea becoming a world class destination for retail, leisure and recreation.”
TripAdvisor is the world’s biggest travel website, generating more than 350 million unique hits a month.
Statistics show 58% of travellers say TripAdvisor reviews are an important factor when picking attractions to visit. Other recent TripAdvisor accolades for Swansea include Rhossili Bay again being named among the UK’s best beaches.
