Aber Valley Wolves will go top of the Welsh Conference table on Saturday if they beat West Wales Raiders reserves at Senghenydd RFC on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).
The Wolves were given a good challenge by new side Blaenau Gwent Sharks last week whilst the Raiders lost at home to Bridgend Blue Bulls.
Wolves’ coach Bobby Andrews said: “We know it will be tough against Raiders. First team or reserves, they’ll want to bounce back after doing well against Bridgend and they’ll bring a strong side over. We’ll have to be at our best to get the win.”
Raiders’ team manager Peter Tiffin said: “It’s been a strange season so far for our reserves as we have played three games and not one result has been the same. We are merely happy that we can field two squads each weekend to compete in the Welsh Conference and Conference League South and still have players missing. We understand it’s going to be another difficult fixture for the boys this weekend as they travel to last year’s runners up. We hope to give some more players their first taste of Rugby League – those who have been training but just missed out last week against Bridgend.”
Cardiff City Rugby League return to Riverside Park, Rumney for the Welsh Conference clash against Blaenau Gwent Sharks on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm TBC).
Cardiff will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after a frustrating defeat to the Aber Valley Wolves last time out.
The Sharks, led by former Cardiff City player Andrew Prouse, will travel to Cardiff looking for their first win of the campaign.
Cardiff head coach Ben Thomas said: “We drew a line under the Wolves game, all our efforts have been to put together an improved performance against the Sharks. Training has been more intense over last three sessions and the boys are busting to go. We expect a stubborn Sharks side who will be boosted by a positive performance against Aber Valley.”
Sharks captain Andrew Prouse said: “I’m looking forward to playing against my old club and seeing some old faces. I can’t wait to see what we can do with a full squad of lads especially the way we played against Aber Valley last week. It’s going to be a physical and hard encounter against a very well drilled and organised team. With both teams expected to go hard, the crowd will be in for a real treat.”
