Chip Off the Old Curry Block! Welsh plant-based dip company expands further with a little help from Tesco.

A Carmarthenshire business is celebrating after winning a slew of listings to put its plant-based dips on Tesco shelves across the country.

Three new meal pots – Chip Shop Curry, Mushroom Carbonara and Mac and Greens – and a brand-new Chip Shop Curry-flavoured sauce from Cross Hands-based Do Goodly Dips are appearing on the supermarket’s shelves across Tesco UK stores including within Wales.

This is the latest and biggest deal yet for Do Goodly in its relationship with Tesco.

All four products are entirely plant-based and suitable for vegan and vegetarians. The range also offers lots of Do Goodly health benefits being 1 of your 5 a day, low fat, having no added sugars and are a source of protein, all whilst not compromising on taste. As part of its ethos of doing good, the business also donates 10% of its profits to mental health charity Mind.

The company, which was founded in 2021 by Richard Abbey and Michelin-trained chef Scott Davis, has a budding relationship with the retailer having already had several of its plant-based dips in Tesco stores.

The company was recently successfully chosen to be on Tesco’s new accelerator growth programme which will see Richard and the Do Goodly range being further expanded into Tesco’s stores across the UK as well as online.

Based in Cross Hands, Llanelli, the company’s products are made in Wales by the Welsh people.

The company is currently a finalist in the Food & Drink Wales Awards in the Scale-up of the Year category, as well as Entrepreneur of the year.

Tesco Wales buyer Nathan Edwards has expressed his confidence in the products, saying that they were destined to be a sensation across Wales.

“The plant-based category has been growing exponentially in recent years and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down. Do Goodly has been leading the charge in Wales and its products appeal to all customers, not just vegans and vegetarians,” he said.

“The company’s innovative range, focus on sustainability including using 100% recyclable packaging and the 100% plant-based products are just some of the reasons why Do Goody have been such a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to reaching even higher heights with this exciting Welsh small business.”

Richard said the expansion into Tesco was another important milestone in the growth of their business.

“Scott and I are delighted to be launching more of our products into such an iconic retailer,” he said.

“These listings mean that our award-winning products are in more shoppers’ hands and enable us to continue to grow our business.

“Working with Tesco has been a big factor in our company growing to a point where we can now venture into more products, such as the meal pots and sauces. It has been a delight working with Tesco and I look forward to many more years of a fruitful relationship.”

Do Goodly is just the latest new product to be launched by Tesco in Wales, with the supermarket’s Welsh-based buying team planning further product launches this year to further expand its industry-leading range of Welsh products in stores.
