People Speak Up, along with its partners, have organised free events in and across Carmarthenshire next week as part of the Half Term Holidays and International Children’s Day to encourage young people and families to come together in the community and play outdoors.
People Speak Up, commissioned by Carmarthenshire Council, delivers a weekly free drop in session, Street Play / Chwarae Stryd Sir Gar for young people and their families to play outdoors safely in their community every Saturday in Park Hall Estate, Carmarthen and Paddock Street Community Centre, Llanelli every Saturday. Street Play provides opportunities for children to engage in physical activity, promoting their overall health and well-being. The PSU Street Play team always brings a selection of toys, games, and activities to whichever venue they attend. The activities are varied, and children can bring their own games. This May Half Term, Street Play / Chwarae Play will be in:
Monday 27 May
11am-1pm – Parc Pontyberem,
2.30pm-4.30pm – Parc Le Conquet, Llandeilo
Thursday 30 May
1.30pm-3.30pm – International Children’s Day, Frwrnes Fach, Llanelli
Friday 31 May
11am-1pm – Ammanford Park
Next week, is International Children’s Day, and PSU in partnership with Llanelli Town Council and Llanelli’s Multicultural Network are organising a free fun day at Ffwrnes Fach, (the old Zion Chapel, next to Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli) on Thursday 30 May, 1.30pm-3.30pm. It’s a free drop in session for all ages, and there will be creative play, street play, sports and games, arts and crafts, fun activities and drinks and snacks available.
According to recent studies in Carmarthenshire with school children and families some over 56% of people said that there are not enough places to hang out and play with friends in their community and 64% of families reported that their children were playing less. (Carmarthenshire Play Sufficiency Assessment 2022-2025 Report). People Speak Up’s Street Play activities take play right into the heart of communities in Carmarthenshire.
People Speak Up (PSU) is a social, arts, health, mental-health, and well-being community organisation. PSU connects people to help them find their voice, and create healthier and resilient communities through storytelling, spoken word, creative writing, conversation-based activities, participatory arts, volunteering and training.
PSU are based in the Ffwrnes Fach (the former Zion Chapel next to Ffwrnes Theatre) which they have turned into an Arts, health and well-being hub open six days a week. They run a weekly packed programme of free activity for young people, older groups, cared for and carers.
