How Remote Tech Is Uplifting More Remote Areas

There are plenty of places even within Wales and the UK that we’d call remote, and being a little more cut off from the world is often a big appeal to them. The trade-off is that many technological services are harder to come by. Many companies have recently been focusing on remote versions of their product, partly for this reason. Here are some industries becoming more available no matter where you are.

Entertainment

Probably the first overall industry to jump onto the remote tech trend was entertainment. It started way back with film and TV, and now virtually every kind is available online. Some industries have even been built specifically around it such as streaming or online casinos. Nowadays, people are just as likely to be playing their games of roulette or slot games online as offline, and with advancements in smartphone tech, even the most hi-tech of casino games can now be played anywhere that an internet connection is active.

More interesting is that even entertainment types traditionally locked to physical locations are now open remotely. Many of the biggest art museums around the world now offer virtual tours with VR integration, and even certain theatre productions are available by specially-made livestreams.

Careers

The world has experienced a massive shift in the last decade or so, with the entire traditional concept of work being flipped on its head. Offices around the world have been emptying out as more and more companies adopt a remote-first policy. What that means is that hiring is no longer limited to a specific city or region, allowing people living in the far corners of the country to have a chance in roles usually cut off to them.

Certain industries are leaning into this more than others. Customer service for one is thriving under remote conditions as representatives are naturally not locked to being in one place. Creative careers like graphic design and marketing are equally opening up.

The Internet Itself

The biggest issue with any of the above is often just having an internet connection at all. While things like fibre connections are slowly becoming the standard for the country as a whole, there are plenty of areas where the internet is either missing or just so slow to the point of uselessness. The advent of mobile data tech such as 5G has been helping fill in the gaps but it still needs a lot of infrastructure.

Systems like Starlink could be a solution in this case. By using a satellite system, it is able to reach more parts of the world than any other system. It is currently focused on the most remote parts of the world, but a larger implementation could effectively create truly global access. Currently, this also requires special equipment to make use of, but in this case, it feels more like a matter of time before it sees everyday usage.

So, keep in mind that, no matter where you are, you may not need to go out to the world. There’s every chance that the world will come to you!
