With holiday season almost in full swing, more UK air travellers might be confused about the many changes to hand luggage security this month. Alvaro Iturmendi, travel expert at Confused.com comments:

“Changes to how we use airport security could make travelling a lot easier and hassle-free. That’s as the laws around liquids and electronic devices have updated, giving flyers the option to have more flexibility when it comes to their carry-on bags. But delays at some airports this week could lead to some confusion over what you can and can’t take on your next holiday.

“For example, Teesside, Birmingham and London City Airport already have new scanners in place, but the 100ml liquid rule still temporarily applies. The only difference is, passengers won’t have to remove these from their bags when passing through security scanners. Other airports though, like Heathrow and Manchester aren’t adopting the new rules yet. So with no ‘one fits all’ rule set in stone across the UK, there’s a risk that millions could face disruptions if they aren’t aware of the security allowances across individual airports.

“To ensure your journey is hassle free, be sure to check with the airport you’re specifically travelling from, so you have the most up-to-date information. And don’t forget to check the security rules from the airport on the other side too, as these may also differ.”
