FOOTBALL LEGENDS TAKE ON XG (EXPECTED GOALS) WITH A

NEW TASTY STAT FOR THE NATION TO GET BEHIND THIS SUMMER

Ally McCoist and Chris Sutton team up with Greggs and Just Eat to launch eXpected Greggs (xGreggs) as research reveals the UK hates complicated football statistics

The more goals from England and Scotland this tournament, the more              free Sausage Rolls for all!

With the nation readying to get behind their favourite football teams this summer, England and Scotland ex-pros Ally McCoist and Chris Sutton have teamed up with Greggs and Just Eat to launch a brand new, simple statistic, that’s set to give footy fans exactly what they’re looking for this tournament.

New research has revealed that xG (Expected Goals) is as unpopular with fans as it is with the professionals. Over half (58%) of football fans have no idea what it is, and even those that do understand it often find it unnecessary with almost a fifth (18%) saying that it adds nothing to the game.

eXpected Greggs (xGreggs) turns England and Scotland’s Expected Goal rates into free Sausage Rolls and Vegan Sausage Rolls for everyone, and it’s super simple to understand. The higher the xG for each game, the more Sausage Rolls Greggs will give away!

Ex-Scotland International and seasoned football pundit, Ally McCoist was delighted to have something freshly baked to help analyse England’s performance:

“We all know that xG gets discussed at length in the football world, especially when teams don’t hit the back of the net as many times as expected, leaving fans disappointed based on how they should have performed. It’s also no secret that some football jargon, like the offside rule, is sometimes still met with head scratching, and that the intricacies of post-match analysis can confuse those who only tune in occasionally, or for big moments such as this summer’s tournament. With the help of Greggs’ delicious Sausage Rolls (and some smart sporting punditry from Chris and I), the only new stat we need to worry about right now is eXpected Greggs.”

In light of,10% of football fans saying that xG takes some of the joy away from watching the beautiful game, Greggs is putting the fun back into football and turning xGreggs into the only stat that matters this Summer.

And with millions expected to tune in to watch the boys compete over the next month, there’s now more than just silverware at stake. The pressure is on, with thousands of free Sausage Rolls on the line.

As Sausage Rolls take the centre stage, and Chris and Ally weigh into the xG debate, rivalries fall to the wayside as McCoist admits:

“I’m of course hoping for Scotland’s xG to be at its highest, but if they leave the tournament, I’ll be rooting for England… only on the basis that they’ll bring masses of free Sausage Rolls to the nation! But only time will tell – we shall have to see.”

On the other hand, Sutton is anticipating England’s success, meaning thousands of free goodies for all:

“Now that expected goals are turning into Sausage Rolls, I’m hoping that complicated questions about xG will fade away, and instead the nation will be celebrating England’s success whilst tucking into freshly baked snacks, for free, all summer long.”

The offer exclusively available via Just Eat, will be LIVE from Saturday 15th June following Scotland’s first fixture against Germany, and for the day following each subsequent Scotland and England match, Greggs will announce more free Sausage Rolls for all*.

Gillian Long, Retail Director at Greggs added:

“With xG, VAR and various new data points playing such a big part in post-match analysis, it’s clear we all need a tastier stat for the nation to get behind. Taking the xG of each game played by England and Scotland at the Euros and multiplying it by 10,000 will allow Greggs (and football!) fans to redeem and enjoy one free Sausage Roll or Vegan Sausage Roll on all Greggs orders over £15 via Just Eat throughout the tournament after each match day.”

Victoria Gold, Marketing Director UK&I at Just Eat, said:

“With millions of Sausage Rolls delivered by Just Eat, we know nothing unites the nation more than their love of football and Greggs. So, whether you’re rooting for Scotland or England, the day after selected match days Just Eat is ready and waiting to deliver these golden baked delights to football fans across the nation.”
