In a written statement today, Vote Leave Cymru Leader, David Jones, has reasserted his “steadfast” commitment to ensuring that pledges made to Wales are kept after Brexit.

He said:
“I was delighted to hear the Secretary of State for Wales speaking earlier this week of his determination to make the new settlement work. Having held the role myself I understand the need to ensure stability, and to reassure any businesses which do have concerns that there is a plan in place – particularly in the immediate aftermath of this historic vote.

“In the weeks ahead that plan will become clearer, and the new Prime Minister will, once in place, chart a course that reflects the will of the people.

“As we have said all along there will be more than enough money to continue to provide Wales with similar levels of support, and senior UK Government ministers have already guaranteed funding for all existing EU schemes until 2020. However, in the medium term, and once a new relationship with the EU as an independent trading partner has been negotiated, there will be more money for Wales.

“Once the UK Government ceases its annual payments to Brussels, Wales will be entitled to its share of the ‘Brexit dividend’ – the £10 billion a year surplus cost of our membership the European Union.

“As the Leader of Vote Leave in Wales it is my duty to reassure those who backed a vote to leave the European Union that we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that Wales benefits from Brexit, and that Welsh communities and businesses – including farmers – do not lose out on funding.

“There is a strong case, particularly in terms of farming support and structural funds, where schemes are directed at an EU level, for new schemes to be brought forward by the Westminster government.

“However, I will work with colleagues to ensure that our promises are kept, and to ensure that Wales is better off outside of the European Union.”
