Wales, Scotland and South West the top UK holiday choices this summer
With schools about to break up for the summer, three in four Brits (75%) are planning a summer holiday or local break in the UK this summer – and many of them are heading over the Severn Bridge to Wales.
Whether its Eryri National Park, Caernarfon Castle, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park or the Brecon Beacons, Wales has caught the imagination of people having a UK staycation this summer.
The Delicious Dessert Company poll asked a nationally representative sample of 2,020 adults, where they and their family were planning to visit for a UK break or holiday over the next three-months. Wales (14%) joined Scotland (17%), the South West (17%) as the top choice places to visit. Conversely, the least popular places for a UK holiday were the East Midlands (4%), the East (4%) and the West Midlands (6%).
Wales was the top outright holiday destination for people from the West Midlands (31%), the North West (22%), Yorkshire (19%) and South West (18%).
In turn 72% of Welsh people also fancy a UK staycation this summer, although 38% of Welsh people will themselves be enjoying a break within Wales.  For those heading outside the Principality, Scotland is the most popular UK holiday destination for Welsh people this summer (17%).
Claire Smith Head of Insight at The Delicious Dessert Company commented: “It is really good news for UK tourism and the economy at large that so many people are planning a staycation or UK mini break this summer – and, for many, Wales is a top choice. Many people are still feeling the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and this may be at play in people opting for a UK summer break. For all of us in the UK, there’s so much to enjoy and explore. At The Delicious Dessert Company we’ve seen a seasonal peak in our modern takes on classic cakes and desserts. For everyone, we offer staycationers a welcome treat for picnics and afternoon tea in their holiday cottage, caravan or campsite. Even on days when it rains.”
