With the 2024 Olympics beginning on Friday, many Brits might be driving down to Paris to watch. But in order to do this, drivers should be prepared with what they need to know about travelling abroad. Louise Thomas, car insurance expert at Confused.com comments:

“With the Paris Olympics starting this weekend, many might be heading to over the channel to watch some of the tournaments. And driving to Paris could be a popular option, as our latest research found that as many as 5 million drivers could be driving to Europe this summer. With France the most popular option for half (50%) of drivers.

“It’s not surprising that road trips are common in Europe this time of year, especially as the UK is in such close proximity. You also have the benefit of being able to take more luggage than if you were to travel by other means, and you can stay in the comfort of your own car. But if you do decide to drive to Europe this summer, it’s important to check that you do the following before you set off:

–            Have a valid driving licence

–            Take your passport

–            Take your V5 certificate (vehicle registration ticket)

–            Display a UK sticker on your car if it was registered there

–            Get a car insurance green card and international

“Driving in a new country can be a bit daunting, but our guide to driving in Europe should cover everything you need to know. That way, you shouldn’t meet any bumps along the way. But if in doubt, always speak to your insurer as they will know best what you are and aren’t covered for. And drive safe!”
