Half of Couples Would Reschedule Their Wedding Reception for a Major Sporting Event, Survey Reveals

49% of people of couples would adjust their wedding reception schedule to accommodate a major sporting event according to a new survey just released by HenParty.ie

The team at HenParty.co.uk surveyed 100 people from across the UK on their thoughts regarding the big day and large sporting occasions – The results are surprising!

We’ve already seen some huge sporting events this Summer, like the Euros Final, and with the Olympics kicking off this weekend we’re truly spoiled for choice. With this in mind, a whopping 68% of those surveyed noted they would allow a major sporting event to be shown during their wedding reception.

Hometown Pride?

Additionally, a huge 82% of respondents noted that they would be more inclined to allow a sporting event to be shown if it featured their own home team/country.. In fact, 61% of those surveyed believe that showing a major sporting event at their wedding would indeed enhance the overall atmosphere.

It’s been a huge Summer of sport so far and it’s only going to continue as the Olympics rolls around. As we all know the Summer is peak wedding season and there are always a few clashes between someone’s special day and a sporting event of some sort. We’ve all seen the phones out on the table during the speeches or people sneaking out to the hotel bar to catch the last few minutes of a game – it’s a real issue for a lot of people! So, it’s not surprising to see that some people would rearrange the day to allow some sort of sports to be shown.

Insulted or Indifferent?

While the majority of couples are open to the idea of showing a sporting event during their wedding reception, there are a few caveats. In true British fashion, the survey revealed that despite many being willing to show matches during their wedding reception, 34% of respondents would feel insulted if guests left the main reception area to then watch a sporting event.

Genders & Age Profiles

72% of the survey respondents identified as female, with 36% of total respondents landing in the 18-29 age bracket, 34% were aged 30-44, and 26% aged 45-60%.
