Beicio Cymru is excited to announce the launch of its Sprint Talent ID programme, inspired by the remarkable success of Welsh riders who proudly represented Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This initiative is set to discover the next generation of sprint cycling champions, offering young athletes aged 13-16 the opportunity to embark on a journey that could lead to the highest levels of competitive track cycling.

In October, Beicio Cymru will host two exclusive Talent ID Days designed to identify and nurture cycling talent across Wales. Participants will have the chance to showcase their sprinting potential through Wattbike testing and experience the thrill of a taster track session at Newport Velodrome. Those who demonstrate promise will be provided with the necessary equipment and support to further develop their skills over a 10-week intensive training programme, to prepare them for competitive sprint racing.

“Our last Talent ID programme was a tremendous success, with five riders progressing to Beicio Cymru programmes and two going on to join the British team,” said Rachel Draper, Sprint Coach of Beicio Cymru. “We are excited to build on this success and offer more young athletes the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Welsh legends like Emma Finucane and Elinor Barker.”

The Talent ID programme is open to cyclists of all experience levels, whether seasoned riders or newcomers to the sport. Beicio Cymru is keen to cast a wide net and encourage as many young athletes as possible to register their interest.
