Thought for the week from the Rev David Jones (we 29th April 2012)

Hopefully we will all be voting in the elections next week when we decide who will represent us in local government for the next five years.

It’s a major concern that only around a third of the population actually does vote in these elections, a trend that if it continues which will have an effect on the very fabric of society if not reversed. Apathy, it seems can throw a very real spanner into the whole political works.

Jesus came to Nazareth at the beginning of his ministry. He led the reading of the Scripture ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; to set free the oppressed and to announce that the time has come when the Lord will save His people’.

There has never been a greater and more dynamic manifesto.

No one can force us to vote, and it’s a sure thing that God does not force us to believe. Rather he invites us to find in Jesus the love and inspiration that we too can share with others.

It is in believing that we move from darkness to light and from apathy to rejoicing, citizens not only of this land but the Kingdom of God where justice and peace inspires us to live together in tolerance, harmony and love.
