Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service staff complete Welsh Three Peaks Challenge!

With a mix of operational and non-operational staff the challenge included a total walking distance of 17 miles and an ascent of 2,334 metres, all in aid of raising vital funds and awareness for the Fire Fighters Charity and Swyn Y Gwynt – Hywel Dda Health Charities.

The challenge tested their abilities and did not come without its obstacles, but the whole team completed the challenge in a very impressive 17 hours and have raised £789 for their chosen charities.

Firefighter Josh Herman one of the participants pushed the challenge one step further by wearing full firefighting kit and breathing apparatus on his back for the duration!

Firefighter Josh Herman said:

“The challenge was tough mentally and physically, to complete it in under 24 hours was a huge achievement for myself and the other members of the team.

I would like to thank everyone for their support during the climb, a big thank you to everyone who has donated to a charity that is close to my heart and a massive thank you to my fiancée for her help and encouragement through some mental barriers I faced during the climb.

I hope by doing this challenge I have raised more awareness for ‘Men’s Mental Health’ and inspired others to start talking and reach out for help when they need it.”
