Colour and cuisine: eat like Matisse when you visit Fondation Beyeler
Inspired by the life and travels of Henri Matisse, the Beyeler Restaurant im Park will be opening an hour earlier, at 9 am, for the duration of the exhibition to serve up a French breakfast in honour of the French visual artist. The ‘petit-déjeuner’ features fresh baguettes, croissants, homemade jam, madeleines and other French classics, washed down with a classic café au lait. Booking available.
Diners visiting later in the day needn’t miss out, as another à la carte highlight in the restaurant is the risotto made from the original recipe of the artist himself. Henri Matisse’s recipe has been deciphered and the delicious risotto is now a firm favourite with diners.
Matisse was inspired in his work by his many trips to the Mediterranean, North Africa, the US and Tahiti, and dishes from these regions and countries appear on the evening menu as a range of small plates. Paired with fine French wines and signature drinks, these specialities take diners on culinary journey in the footsteps of Matisse.
“Matisse: Invitation to the Voyage” is available to see from September 22, 2024, to January 26, 2025 at Fondation Bayeler; tickets start at £14 for BaselCard holders.
