Works on the Ferry Road Culvert scheme in Kidwelly are underway, with contractors GD Harries making significant progress. A working compound has been established, and the culverting works in the downstream section are nearing completion.

As the project moves forward, the next phase of works will focus on the highway section. While this phase will involve some disruption, a full road closure will not be necessary. Traffic will continue to flow with the implementation of a traffic light system. The lights will include a pedestrian override for safety and, to further ease congestion, they will be manned during peak hours.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Decarbonisation and Sustainability – Cllr Aled Vaughan Owen said:

I am pleased to update that drainage upgrade works have commenced at Ferry Road, Kidwelly to better manage the flood risk in the area.

The County Council understands the importance of minimising inconvenience to the area and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work to enhance the local flood infrastructure.”

The Ferry Road Culvert Scheme project remains on schedule, with completion anticipated by the start of December 2024.
