Pembrey Country Park is in line for major investment following the approval of a masterplan by the executive board.
Work will start immediately on the first elements of the plan which include an improved park entrance, including signage and a barrier system; and a new shower and toilet block for the caravan and camping site.
Estimated cost of the work is £275,000 with plans for a further investment of £600,000 for refurbishment of the visitor centre and café.
This includes providing indoor activities at the café building such as soft play areas, indoor climbing equipment, table top games, activity walls and a small arcade.
Longer term proposals include the creation of a beach sports zone near to the kiosk and a beach volleyball and soccer area.
The ski and activity centre is in line for new adventurous activities such as a climbing wall, adventure play area and a zip wire.
The masterplan was presented by Community Services Director Jake Morgan, who said: “This is the start of real investment in Pembrey Country Park.
“It is in recognition that the number of visitors we now have is out of proportion with the infrastructure we have in place.
“This is a relatively small investment considering that this is one of the primary tourist attractions in the county.”
Deputy Leader Cllr Pam Palmer said she fully approved of the plans to invest in the country park.
“This is certainly another jewel in our crown which we haven’t done an awful lot to polish so this investment is very welcome.”
