Turkey’s most Instagrammable landmarks to visit this Spring

  • Manavgat has been named the most Instagrammable Turkish landmark, with 1,601,100 hashtags on Instagram 
  • The second most Instagrammable Turkish landmark is Galata Tower, with 810,200 hashtags on Instagram 
  • The study examined the number of Instagram hashtags for various landmarks in Turkey 

A new study has revealed Turkey’s most Instagrammable landmarks. 

The research, conducted by travel experts Istanbul Tickets and Tours, analysed landmarks across Turkey, evaluating the number of posts on Instagram under relevant hashtags. 

The most Instagrammable Turkish landmark is Manavgat, boasting an overall hashtag count of 1,601,100 on Instagram. Located in the Antalya Province of southern Turkey, Manavgat is known for its rich history and agriculture. 

Manavgat is a growing tourist destination, offering a combination of natural beauty, historical sites, and Mediterranean climate. Visitors often come for both relaxation and adventure, from exploring ancient ruins to enjoying water sports.                    

In second place is Galata Tower, with 810,200 overall hashtags on Instagram. This iconic landmark features a restaurant and a café at the top where visitors can enjoy a meal or drink while taking in the panoramic views of the city. There is also a museum inside the tower that explains its history and the various roles it has played throughout the centuries. 

Blue Mosque takes third place, with an overall hashtag count of 687,100 on Instagram. The calligraphy inside is impressive, with inscriptions that include verses from the Quran and are written in gold. The mosque’s stained-glass windows, which allow light to flood the interior and enhance the serene atmosphere. 

In fourth place is Hagia Sophia, with an overall hashtag count of 631,100 on Instagram. Hagia Sophia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important monuments across the globe. It attracts millions of tourists every year, who visit to appreciate its historical significance, its architecture, and its blend of religious traditions. 

Ephesus claims fifth place, with an overall hashtag count of 438,600 on Instagram. Ephesus is a fascinating destination that offers a unique glimpse into the grandeur of the ancient world with its monumental structures, rich history, and archaeological discoveries. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome. 

Sixth place is Topkapi Palace, with an overall hashtag count of 242,200 on Instagram. The palace combines elements of Ottoman, Persian, and Islamic architectural styles, with beautiful tile work, marble floors, and intricately designed rooms. 

Derinkuyu takes seventh place, with an overall hashtag count of 88,400 on Instagram. Derinkuyu is one of the largest and most famous underground cities in Turkey, stretching up to 60 metres deep. It is believed to have been carved into the soft volcanic rock of the region, which is a characteristic feature of the Cappadocia area. 

In eighth place is Dolmabahçe Palace, with an overall hashtag count of 60,100 on Instagram. Dolmabahçe Palace is situated along the Bosphorus, offering stunning views of the waterway and the Asian side of Istanbul. 

Basilica Cistern claims ninth place, with an overall hashtag count of 58,700 on Instagram. The Basilica Cistern is open to visitors and offers a mesmerising experience. The silence and mystery of the space add to its charm, making it a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. 

Lastly, Kaputaş Beach takes tenth place, with an overall hashtag count of 16,600 on Instagram. Kaputaş Beach is situated in the Kaş district, in the province of Antalya, on the southern coast of Turkey. The beach is easily accessible by car, and visitors can also reach the beach by boat from nearby towns.
