M&S Staff Clean Up Llanelli Millenium Coastal Park Beach

IT wasn’t just any old clean-up; it was an M&S clean-up! Staff from the Parc Trostre store carried out a litter-pick of Llanelli beach at the Millennium Coastal Park. They collected 20 bags of litter in total with 15 bags of the rubbish being recycled.

 

 

The 18 members of staff that took part in the clean-up were helped by family and friends. M&S staff member Simon Mcintyre said they carried out the clean-up with the encouragement of the M&S head office. It was part of a national exercise to make both staff and customers aware of the litter problems on UK beaches and waterways. He said: “It was a great achievement to see all the rubbish that we collected at the end of it.

The team was really proud and all the staff involved spoke to customers and colleagues on our achievement the next day.” He said they hoped to carry out further clean-ups in the future. The litter-pick was supported by Carmarthenshire County Council as part of its ‘Keep it Clean’ campaign.

The council provided the clean-up kit and organised for the litter to be disposed of and recycled. Schools and community groups are being urged to get involved and organise their own clean-up events. Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “I would like to congratulate the staff at M&S for all their hard work and giving up their time to clean up the beach.
