Burry Port news (we 17th June 2012)
This will be closed completely from 14 to 19 June for Beach Break Live. Expect much disruption before and after those dates while setting up, dismantling and clearing up takes place.
Coffee Bingo Evening
On Monday 11 June there is a Coffee/Bingo evening in the Royal British Legion. Admission 40p members and guests. Last bingo books 8.20pm.Proceeds to troops fund.
Historical Society
The next meeting of the Pembrey & Burry Port Society will be at 7pm on Tuesday 12 June,when the guest speaker will be Mr Ewan Jenkins with a talk entitled “The History of Jerusalem Chapel”.
The meeting will take place in the Memorial Hall where as always,all will be made very welcome and refreshments will be provided.
Leslie Griffiths Centre
On Wednesday 20 June at the Leslie Griffiths Centre, behind the Methodist Church, the Rev Leslie Griffiths, Lord Pembrey and Burry Port will be unveiling a series of wall hangings at 2.30pm.
These hangings depict the history of Burry Port using recycled materials and have been made by the ladies who meet each Monday afternoon in the centre. A number of special guests have been invited to attend and refreshments will be served. All welcome to attend.
Legion Entertainment
The Royal British Legion Club presents on Saturday 16 June a show featuring Faye a female vocalist. Doors open 7pm.Bingo last books 7.50pm.Admission members £2 and guests £3.Guests must be signed in.On Monday 18 June there is Coffee/Bingo. Admission 40p. Last bingo books 8.20pm.
Coffee Morning
This is on Saturday 23 June between 10am and 12noon at 95 Stepney Road. There will be home made cakes, tombola and raffles.£2 admission with proceeds Ty Bryngwyn Hospice. All welcome.
Town Band Success
Burry Port Town Band look forward to their Annual Summer Concert at the Memorial Hall on Saturday 4 August followed by the National Eisteddfod the next day Sunday 5 August in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Nordic Walking
Age Cymru training will commence at Pwll football car park on Thursdays at 1.45pm for 8 weeks. Poles will be provided. This is a very enjoyable and social way to get exercise. Great for diabetics and ongoing recovery from illness and surgery, but also for anyone who wants to keep up their fitness.
On Sunday 3 June there will be Nordic Walking at the Wetlands Centre in the morning and afternoon. We can accommodate trained walkers and beginners. Nordic Walking Poles will be available to borrow for those without their own. The main walk will be an informative one around the Millennium Wetlands.
Please note that if you are not a WWT member normal entry fees will apply but the Nordic Walking itself is free.
Tan-y-Bryn Social Club
Come and join us for bingo on Monday at 2pm, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7pm.Members £1 a month. Tea or coffee, biscuits and raffle 50p.All non members will have to pay £1 per session and are not eligible to win the ongoing Snowball. All non members will have to pay full price for any events or outings put on by the club.
Burry Port Opera
Rehearsals have started on Wednesdays at 7pm in the Memorial Hall. This year’s opera is Norma by Bellini. As usual we would welcome new members male or female. Anyone interested contact Christine Rudge on 01554 835659,or just turn up on the evening.
Car Boot Sale
Pembrey and Burry Port Community Forum are starting car boot sales on Saturday 5 May on the Carnival field opposite the new car park starting at 1pm.Cost to sell £5 per car £8 per van. Enquiries to 01554 833188.
Carnival
Volunteers are needed for Burry Port Carnival Day on the 7 July. The procession has the theme Royalty Through The ages and will be leaving Dyfatty at 1pm.Please contact 01554 830975.
