The eastbound carriageway of the A48 between Pensarn and Nantycaws will be closed for six weeks from September 20 for engineering works to be carried out by Mainline Pipelines Ltd.

Traffic will be diverted along the old Nantycaws bypass by heading northeast from the Pensarn roundabout along the A40 then taking the fourth exit onto the B4300 and continuing straight onto Heol Llangynnwr and on to the A48 at the Nantycaws junction.

In a statement Mainline Pipelines ltd said:

“Mainline Pipelines Ltd operate a high pressure cross country multifuel pipeline that runs from Pembroke refinery to terminals in Manchester and Kingsbury, Warwickshire.

“A defect has been located on a section of pipeline that crosses under the eastern bound carriageway of the London – Fishguard Trunk Road (A48) in Nantycaws, Carmarthenshire. The pipeline is currently operating safely, however the defect needs to be repaired in 2016 to ensure the continued safety of the pipeline, local residents and the environment.

“The engineering works are planned to be completed between the 20th September 2016 and the 28th October 2016, which is outside the holiday period. In order to do this, the Pensarn to Nantycaws Junction Eastbound Carriageway will need to be closed and diverted for approximately 6 weeks. However, we will endeavour to reduce this as much as we can if possible. The diverted route will be along the old Nantycaws bypass by heading northeast from the Pensarn roundabout along the A40 then taking the fourth exit onto the B4300 and continuing straight onto Heol Llangynnwr that leads to the A48 Eastbound carriageway at the Nantycaws junction. Click here to see a plan of the diversion route.

“Along with the required carriageway closure, all the necessary steps are being taken to ensure the repair is done efficiently and without delay. All matters will have been discussed and agreed with the Welsh Government and South Wales Trunk Road Authority prior to commencement.

“We apologise for any delays caused as a result of the work… “
