After the success of Carmarthenshire markets ‘Carmarthenshire Young Trader competition’, Llanelli market has launched their own Teenage Market.

Young entrepreneurs from local Secondary schools will be battling it out against each other in a bid to become the first team to win a new business competition. Teams from St John Lloyd and Coedcae are taking part in the Carmarthenshire Teenage Market competition, which has been organised by Carmarthenshire County Council.

The aim of the competition is for teams of up to 5 pupils to come up with a business idea, arrange marketing and sell their product.

The teams will be trading against each other in pitches in Llanelli Outdoor Market on Thursday, September 22nd from 10am-2pm.

The winner is the school which makes the most profit. They will receive a trophy from Cllr. Davis Jenkins County Council executive board member responsible for markets, during a presentation ceremony at 2.15pm.

Each of the teams has been given £100 donated by businesses in Llanelli, Llanelli Chamber of Trade and Llanelli Town Council. Each school will get to keep any profit made during the day.

County Council executive board member responsible for markets, Cllr David Jenkins, said: “The response, to this competition, by schools has been fantastic. “There are clearly a lot of young people out there with great business ideas and this competition is an excellent opportunity for them to try their hand at trading for a day. It’s also of benefit to the school as a whole as any profit made will go back to them. This competition couldn’t have gone ahead without the financial support of local businesses. It’s up to people now to come along and support them and help make their trading experience a success.”
