£4.2m for Tycroes School

Work is almost complete on a £4.2 million investment for Tycroes primary school which will enjoy its official opening this summer.

The scheme included a new extension plus refurbishment of the existing building. The extension provides three new early years’ classrooms, an extension to the hall plus remodelling and refurbishment of the existing building.

 

 

Internal refurbishment included a Special Educational Needs therapy room, medical inspection, and small group and parent interview rooms.

The headteacher’s office, administration facilities, toilets and kitchen were also refurbished.

Director of Education and Children’s Services Robert Sully said: “Providing first-class education facilities, to ensure our young people get the best start in life, is vital.

“The investment at Tycroes school is fantastic and will enable the children to learn in the best environment and therefore develop their skills even further.”

Contractors John Weaver Ltd also donated £10,000 for the latest iPads to the school, which has remained operational throughout the work.

Internal works have now been completed and external work will be finished in the next few weeks, before the official opening taking place on July 9.

It is being held to celebrate the completion of Carmarthenshire County Council’s major investment in Tycroes through its Modernising Education Programme.

Education executive board member Cllr Keith Davies added: “Enabling all our children in Carmarthenshire to do better is what the Modernising Education Programme aims to achieve.

“It’s essential that we provide the best facilities we can, and this investment will achieve this for all children in the area.”
