Four apprehended at Burry Inlet

Environment Agency Wales has apprehended four people for alleged illegal cockling at the Burry Inlet.

It follows a special operation by the Agency’s officers after it received a series of reports about illegal cockling in the area.

The four, who are local to the area, have been reported for fisheries offences and now face legal action.

The cockles have been safely returned to the estuary.

Lyn Richards from Environment Agency Wales said: “Anyone gathering cockles in the Burry Inlet must have a valid licence.

“This helps to protect the cockle beds for the future and provide a sustainable living for legitimate cocklers.

“We will continue to work with people and take appropriate action against people who break the law on the Burry Inlet cockle beds.”
