Thought for the week from the Rev David Jones (we 22nd July 2012)

Llanelli born Dai Greene, the world 400m hurdles champion will captain the British athletic team at the London Olympics.

According to the head coach Dai was an standout candidate, well liked and respected by his teammates who has brought his sport to the highest level possible.

As a community we are immensely proud of his achievements and with his family, friends and the schools he attended at Pen y Gar and Coedcae will be totally behind this young man in our support as he goes for the gold medal – Well done Dai!

Dai Greene’s success did not, of course, come overnight but the result of hard and committed training schedules and the support of those who recognised his abilities and gave him all the encouragement to fulfil his dreams. It’s the same when it comes to faith.

We need to practice and work at it and to encourage each other along the way. The joy of faith is found not merely practicing religion but in taking seriously the claims of Jesus and living daily in obedience to his commands.

The church must always be a place where the Word of God is proclaimed and where we help and support each other in what can so often be the race of life.

Then to be sure that despite everything that often discourages us that we are in the winning team and that nothing can every separate us from God’s love.
