Responding to the announcement of the inquiry by the Assembly’s Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee, Kirsty Davies-Warner, Head of Oxfam Cymru said:

“We welcome the announcement the Committee will undertake an inquiry into the support and services available for refugees and asylum seekers in Wales, as well as Wales’ response to the crisis in Syria.

“We’re aware that there is a great deal of good work going on across Wales when it comes to supporting refugees and asylum seekers. However, some families are unable to access essential services such as transport, housing and healthcare.

“As a group, refugees and asylum seekers are particularly vulnerable and are at greater risk of experiencing poverty. This inquiry will therefore be paramount in ensuring that Wales plays its full part in supporting families who have been forced to flee.”
