The Truth About the Vote on Lesley Griffiths, an open letter by Keith Davies AM

There has been much speculation on the recent ‘no confidence’ vote in Lesley Griffiths.

I want to assure the people of Llanelli that the vote had nothing to do with Prince Philip Hospital, the services it used to provide, what services are available now or what it might offer in future.

The vote was a desperate and ill-judged attack on the Health Minister. The opposition produced not a single shred of evidence to support their vote or to suggest the Health Minister had done anything wrong.

Even one of Plaid’s own, Dafydd Elis-Thomas – well respected by his local party, had the integrity to expose the vote for what it was – a vote that ‘puts prejudice before evidence’.

My concern for hospital services is sincere, despite what others wish to say about me and my role as your AM. My position has not changed. I want the people of Llanelli to have access to the best health care services. What we must have is an open and honest debate about that.

From my experience in winning campaigns, it is hugely important that we all work together. During the forthcoming consultation, we all must take an interest in how the Local Health Board intends to reorganise our health services.

Regardless of what is proposed, we must work collectively to show the Local Health Board that good quality health services matter to the people of this town.

With Best Wishes,

Keith Davies AM
