ASGHAR: Anger at scrapping of youth bus discount scheme

Responding to the announcement the Welsh Labour-Liberal Government has scrapped its £15m fund to help young people get to jobs and training after only 18 months, Welsh Conservative Shadow Secretary for Skills, Mohammad Asghar AM, has said:

“I am dismayed that the Welsh Government has decided to cancel this scheme which had the potential – if correctly implemented – to assist young people particularly from deprived communities, to seek education, training or job opportunities.

“However, to bin a scheme after only 18 months with such vast sums of public money invested is a scandal and is yet another example of the Welsh Government’s appalling track record on delivery.

“It appears the Welsh Government has simply passed the buck to cash strapped local authorities and expects them to shoulder responsibility for this policy.

“With a Liberal Democrat at the heart of the government, you would’ve expected greater protection, support and oversight of a scheme secured through one of the party’s backroom deals.

“Sadly, members of the Welsh Government appear content to waste millions of pounds of hardworking taxpayers’ money just to do a deal and cling onto power.”
