Deputy Presiding Officer
THE Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council has been elected to a senior post representing local government in Wales.
Cllr Kevin Madge has been elected a Deputy Presiding Officer of the Welsh Local Government Association at its recent annual general meeting.
He said: āIām in my 34th year in local government and to be appointed to this position is a great honour. I will be working closely with the Presiding Officer, Bridgend Council Leader Cllr Mel Knott, to take the WLGA from strength to strength to represent the people of Wales and Carmarthenshire.
āI have already chaired a meeting of the Leaders of the 22 councils last week.ā
The WLGA represents the interests of local government and promotes local democracy in Wales. It represents the 22 local authorities in Wales and the four police authorities; three fire and rescue authorities and three national park authorities are associate members.
The WLGA’s primary purposes are to promote better local government and its reputation and to support authorities in the development of policies and priorities which will improve public services and democracy.
