Industrial Strategy to mark biggest investment in transport and connectivity for a generation
The Prime Minister has today announced plans for the biggest investment in transport, broadband and energy in a generation as part of a new industrial strategy.
The strategy is being launched today, including pledges to develop new technologies across the whole of the UK.
Responding to the announcement, Shadow Economy Secretary, Russell George called on the First Minister to “refocus” and engage constructively with Theresa May to ensure that the full potential of the strategy is realised here in Wales.
He said:
“The Prime Minister’s Industrial Strategy will make Britain and Wales a stronger, fairer and more successful place, and the First Minister should refocus his energies on ensuring that the Welsh Labour-led Government is fully engaged with its development.
“We have huge connectivity issues which hold back the Welsh economy, and central to the Prime Minister’s vision is a desire to develop new technologies to make it easier for foreign companies to trade here – including investing in the development of digital industries like broadband and mobile technology.
“We have an opportunity to build on the country’s strengths and tackle its underlying weaknesses, and the people of Wales want to see the First Minister working constructively with the UK Government to ensure that its potential is realised here.
“Fortunately, this is a UK Government which acts in the interests of the whole union, and the modern Industrial Strategy will back Wales and the United Kingdom for the long term – so businesses can grow and create more high skilled, high paid jobs.”
